Your fridge basics depend on many factors to mention your lifestyle, eating habits, relationship with home cooking and the country you live in among others. What do I mean by fridge basics? It is simply a limited number of simple neutral ingredients you can use to cook fast and healthy meal for yourself and your family. It is impossible to give you the list of exact products because we are all different, but I’ll show you my winter must-haves I always keep in the kitchen.
Brown rice. Healthy energy booster, great as a side dish or as an ingredient for your salads, soups, chilli con carne. Can easily be a part of your winter breakfast, lunch or dinner. Brown rice is high in fibre, B vitamins, which are essential for your nervous system, antioxidants. According to the latest studies it actually helps to loose weight as well as prevents significant blood sugar fluctuations being a slow-release carbohydrate.
Eggs. Eggs contain the full set of essential amino acids, are high in vitamin D, brings bright yellow colour to your plate and can be cooked as a separate dish or as a part of more complex yet simple winter meal. By adding hot boiled egg to your salad you make it both warm and filling.
Avocado. I love avocados both in summer and in winter, however in winter its creamy rich texture is especially in trend. Moreover this beautiful fruit is a nutrient-dense food containing over 20 vitamins and minerals together with healthy fatty acids. Spread it on hot or cold toast, substitute mayonnaise with avocado dressing, use it in spicy dips!
Cranberries. Cranberries are at the top of the list of healthy foods doe to their high antioxidant and nutrient content. Native Americans used it as a medicine. By having those berries fresh or frozen in you fridge you can get tasty sauces, great stuffing, bitter accent to meat dishes, or amazing drinks along the benefit of improving your immunity.
Olive oil the best slimming pills. If we think about fridge wardrobe in a fashion way then olive oil in your kitchen is an analogue to the underwear in your drawer. It is the very basic ingredient which makes your life easier, brings taste, choice and variety. Either for cooking or as a dressing — olive oil is a all year round star. Winter is not an exception.
