Colours play a crucial role in the world of fashion. I’m sure you have heard many times that white makes people look bigger. In the nutrition world we are not really used to choose foods colourwise, yet ironically white foods actually make us bigger 😃 Let’s talk about winter colour trends for your fridge. There are many but I have chosen my favourite one just like an example. I believe that deep dark green, intense red and bright orange go perfectly with each other making a perfect winter composition. In foods each colour is there for a reason. Nutrients and phytonutrients content give each fruit, vegetable, berry, spice and herb its colour. Your colourful winter meals can kill two birds with one stone. You get a good variety of micronutrients essential for your health and well-being AND you boost your serotonin production thus improving mood and energy. Let’s check a few recipes with this beautiful colour combination.
- Lettuce and avocado salad with red and orange bell peppers. Dress it with orange juice+olive oil dressing.
- Spicy kale soup with red kidney beans, carrots and broccoli. Chop and mix your vegs, add beans and don’t forget about chilli and other favourite spices of your choice to make it wintery warm!
- Warm salad with sweet potato, walnuts, spinach and cherries with balsamic vinegar
- Courgette-sweet potato vegetarian curry with spinach, tomatoes, garlic and onion. Serve with aromatic rice and greek yoghurt.
- Morning oats with pumpkin seeds, pomegranate and persimmon.
All of the above can be easily cooked in 10-15 minutes (preparation time). Of course you’ll need to cook curry and soup for another 30 minutes or so. If you are a fan of meat you can add it to everything except maybe oats, however in winter we tend to overeat red meat so just try it vegetarian first. You can always add meat or poultry if you wish.
Stay tuned. Eat in style!
