Let’s start to talk about balance, not style. What do we mean by balanced wardrobe for a day? Despite of a season, lifestyle, budget, goals and occupation we all put on several pieces of clothes daily without skipping any part of it. We put on 1) underwear 2) top 3) bottom 4) shoes. We can’t go out half dressed. Most of us would also wear some accessories: bag, jewellery, belt, socks, watch, scarf or hat. Some days (or even every day) ladies wear dress instead of a top+bottom pair.
Let’s move to nutrition. Our body has several requirements as well. In order to maintain well-being we need to eat daily several macro and micro nutrients. The major macronutrients are the following: 1) carbohydrates 2) protein 3) fats 4) starch. We also depend on liquids (mainly water). Micronutrients include all spectre of vitamins and minerals as well as some beneficial phytonutrients. In order to eat healthy it is advisable to eat something from each of the following food groups on a daily basis: 1) Vegetables/fruits/berries — the best source of starch, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients 2) Wholegrain — the best source of complex carbohydrates as well as starch and vitamins 3) High quality protein like eggs, fish, seafood, soy food, legumes — the best source of protein, minerals, vitamins, animal fats 3) Plant fats — the best source of healthy fats. You can of course add some accessories like honey, spices, vinegar, chocolate etc in small amounts.
As I have already mentioned we can’t go out half dressed yet for an unknown reason the most popular diets recommend people to exclude or dramatically limit major food groups like wholegrain, fruits or fats. Another unbalanced idea is to eat mostly one group of foods like animal proteins. Imagine you wear 3 pair of jeans and a skirt on top of it without any t-shirt… Strange is not it? Balance is a key in planning both, a wardrobe and a menu. It is very easy and intuitive with clothes and should be that simple with foods try this. Let’s try to balance out daily menu.
